Holguin signs with Cumberland

Samantha Holguin will become the latest Ranger College volleyball standout to take her game to the next level. The Lady Rangers' sophomore inked a deal to play at Cumberland University next season last Thursday during a special ceremony.

"I'm excited about going there to play," said Holguin, who helped Ranger College advance to the 2018 Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference tournament. "They have a really nice nursing program, and their team is good."

At Cumberland, Holguin will be joining a Phoenix squad that went 22-14 and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NAIA Mid-South Conference Championships in November. A private university located in Lebanon, Tenn., Cumberland went 10-6 in conference play during the regular season.

A native of El Paso, Holguin was joined at the signing ceremony by her parents and her younger sister, as well as by members of the Lady Rangers' volleyball team.

"We're proud she is going to get to play at the next level," said RC head coach Nicole Smith. "Samantha worked very hard on the court and in the classroom while she was here. I can't wait to see what she accomplishes as Cumberland, both as a student and a player."
