RC’s 4x800 relay team nets All-American honors

The Ranger College women's 4x800-meter relay squad might not have had the experience level of some of their counterparts at the 2021 NJCAA Outdoor National Track and Field Championships, but that didn't stop them from proving themselves among the best in the country.

The 4x800-meter relay squad – consisting of four freshmen runners - highlighted the Lady Rangers' outing at the national meet by garnering All-American honors in only their second-ever attempt at running the race. Ranger eighth in the final standings at the meet, which was held on May 11-13 at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.

Melohdee Marroquin, Alexa Reyes, Alauna Stackhouse and Kaylyn De La Rosa turned in a time of 10 minutes, 4.84 seconds in the race and placed eighth overall. The team finished less than 5 seconds out of the top five.

"This was a great experience for our young ladies, and helped show them what kind of fire it takes to win at the national track meet," said RC head coach Kathy Graham.

The Lady Rangers also picked up a solid showing from freshman Fae Gonzalez. She raced her way to 12th in the women's 10,000-meter run by legging out a time of 42 minutes, 1.39 seconds.
