Lady Rangers take 6th at Warhawk Classic
The Ranger College women's 4x800-meter relay team proved to be as good as everyone thought they would be at the 2021 Warhawk Classic. The squad raced its way to a first-place finish in their first outing and helped spur the Lady Rangers to sixth in the final team standings at the April 17 meet in Abilene.
The 4x800-meter relay squad dominated their race. Melohdee Marroquin, Alexa Reyes, Alauna Stackhouse and Kaylyn De La Rosa teamed to win by almost 20 seconds. The four turned in a time of 10 minutes, 7.63 seconds. Texas Wesleyan placed second at 10:26.40.
The outing was the Lady Rangers' first time to actually compete in the 4x800-meter relay this season. The team had previously qualified for the NJCAA national outdoor track meet based on a composite time from each runner in 800-meter races. The NJCAA outdoor national track meet will be held on May 11.
Ranger, which rolled up 32 points in the meet, also collected several outstanding individual performances, including a third-place finish by Reyes in the 800-meter run. The RC standout legged out a time of 2:31.60 in the event. Teammate Neveah Serabia was seventh in the race with a mark of 2:38.97.
Like Reyes, De La Rosa, Stackhouse and Marroquin also did well in their individual races. The trio helped Ranger dominate the 400-meter race with a 3-4-6 finish. De La Rosa finished third with a run of 1:03.56. Stackhouse was fourth at 1:04.06, while Marroquin took sixth with a run of 1:05.87.
Ranger College is scheduled to compete in the Tarleton State Relays on April 22 in Stephenville.
