RC relay team qualifies for national meet

The Ranger College women's 4x800-meter relay team posted one of the fastest times of the 2021 NJCAA season last weekend at the East Texas Invitational in Commerce. And, because of their success, the rest of the nation will get to see them perform next month.

Neveah Sarabia, Alauna Stackhouse, Cameron Boykin and Melohdee Marroquin combined to post a time of 9 minutes, 55 seconds in the 4x800-meter event. The time is the fifth-fastest mark by an NJCAA team this season. It also earned the team a spot in the upcoming NJCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The national meet will be held on May 11 at South Plains College in Levelland.

While the relay team may have stolen the limelight, the Lady Rangers also garnered stellar outings individually from Kaylyn De La Rosa, Stackhouse and Fae Gonzalez.

De La Rosa, a sophomore, bettered her own school record in the 800-meter run. She finished with a time of 2:26.12 and placed eighth overall, Stackhouse improved her time by 2 seconds in the 800, taking ninth with a time of 2:29.64. Gonzalez was eighth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:26.24.

Next up for the RC women will be the McMurray University Invitational on Saturday, April 17, in Abilene.
