Bio

Gil Williams is entering his third season as the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Ranger
College. Williams’ first two years at Ranger have been successful both on, and off, the course.
The 21-22 season saw Ranger send both the men and the women to the NJCAA National
Championship with each team capturing its 2 nd highest finish in school history. The men’s
team finished the season with the 2 nd most birdies in school history on their way to a 7 th place
finish at Nationals. The women also finished with the 2 nd most birdies in school history, as well
as, the 3 rd best scoring average in school history and a team win at the University of Houston-
Victoria on their way to a 12 th place finish at Nationals. The 22-23 season saw the men build
upon the success of the previous season with freshman Mads Jensen earning a spot on the
South Central All-District team. The Ranger men carded the lowest round in school history by
posting 272 (-16) in the 2 nd round of NMJC’s T-Bird Invite; in addition, the men set the record
for most birdies in a season en route to a 12 th place finish at Nationals. The women were led
by freshman Lilly Phelps who garnered the 7 th lowest scoring average in school history. The
women also broke the record for regular season rounds played. In Williams’ two seasons at
Ranger both teams have achieved above a 3.0 team gpa every semester.


Prior to Ranger Williams spent two years at the University of Texas-Permian Basin where he
served as the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach. In Williams’ two years on the staff at
UTPB, the Falcons shattered the record book with the highest rankings in school history on
both the men’s and the women’s side. The Falcons carded the lowest single-round team score
and lowest team 54-hole total in school history on the women’s side. On the men’s side, the
Falcons earned the first individual win in school history, the lowest individual and team
scoring averages in school history, as well as the first All-Conference selection in school
history. During Williams’ tenure, the Falcons were able to sign three Division I transfers and
three players ranked in the Top 100 in the country in NJCAA.


Williams also has experience as a basketball coach, with successful stints at his prior stops. 
As a graduate assistant at Dallas Baptist, he helped guide the Patriots to the most wins in
program history, a Heartland Conference championship and a bid to the NCAA D2 National
Tournament. As a student assistant, he helped guide LeTourneau to a 22-win season - the
most in program history, their first conference championship and was instrumental in the
recruitment of NCAA DIII National Player of the Year Nate West. In the 2014-15 season,
Williams was on the staff at ULM that achieved the first 20-win season in over a decade and
reached the finals of the College Basketball Invitational Tournament.


Williams’ teams have consistently excelled in the classroom with over a dozen athletes named
to Conference All-Academic teams and an Academic Team of the year Award.


Williams earned his Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies from LeTourneau
University in 2017.
