RC women win UHV crown

The Ranger College women's golf team picked up its first victory of the season this past weekend by claiming the team title at the University of Houston-Victoria Tournament. The Lady Rangers had five golfers finish in the top 11 and cruised to an easy win.

"The women played really well," said RC coach Gil Williams.

As a team, the Lady Rangers posted rounds of 332 and 325 and finished the two-day tournament with a mark of 636. They finished 21 strokes better than Our Lady of the Lakes which came in second at 657. Blinn College and UH-Victoria took third and fourth, respectively.

Jirasuda Khunarak and Nanya Hinsui gave the Lady Rangers a sweep of the top two spots in the individual standings.

Khunarak fired rounds of 76 and 77 and finished with a 6-over 150. Hinsui finished three strokes off the lead with a final score of 153. Hunsui, who tied Khunarak on the first day with a round of 76, carded a 77 on the final day and slipped to second overall.

Taylor Hodges gave Ranger a third top-10 finish. A sophomore from Eastland, she posted rounds of 87 and 80, respectively, and finished 10th overall at 167.

Alicia Barron and Kayla Paulson tied for 11th with identical scores of 168.

Sarah Baker rounded out the Lady Rangers' participants. She was 22nd individually with a total of 180.
