Late rally lifts Collin past RC women

The Collin County Community College Cougars threw a monkey wrench into Ranger College's attempts to climb into the top four in the NTJCAC standings on Feb. 1 by rallying for a 56-54 victory in Plano.

Collin reeled off a 14-9 run in the final 10 minutes of play and eked out a nail-biting come-from-behind decision. Ranger College, thanks to a dominating presence on the boards by Alena Wilson and Angel Reese, led for much of the first three-and-a-half-quarters.

The Lady Rangers, who fell to 4-5 in conference play, got off to a quick start against Collin, which leads the NTJCAC race with an 8-2 mark. Ranger outscored the Cougars by a 20-13 clip in the first eight minutes. They tacked on 11 more points in the ensuing frame and took a 31-27 lead into the half.

Ranger, which had defeated Collin in their earlier meeting, continued to hold the lead through the third. The team took a 45-42 cushion into the start of the final period.

Wilson paced the RC attack against Collin by throwing in 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Reese chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.

Bre'Asiajah Mathews also reached double figures for RC, netting 11 points. Teammate Imani McNeal added eight.

The Lady Rangers will return to action on Thursday when they face McLennan Community College in Waco.
