Lady Rangers snap 3-game losing streak

Alena Wilson and Bre'Asiajah Mathews both posted double-double performances on Saturday afternoon and breathed new life into the Lady Rangers' postseason hopes by guiding them to a 58-37 victory over the Cisco Lady Wranglers in the Ron Butler Gymnasium.

With the victory, Ranger snapped its three-game conference losing streak and, more importantly, moved to within a game of fourth place in the NTJCAC standings. Ranger enters Wednesday's matchup with Grayson College at 3-4 in conference, one game back of Grayson, Hill and Temple who are tied at 4-3.

Wilson gave Ranger the solid start it needed against cross-county rival Cisco. The freshman post scored the Lady Rangers' first four buckets. Then, after Imani McNeal had tacked on a three-point shot, she knocked down her fifth shot of the stanza. Wilson's 10 first-quarter points paved the way for RC to build a 13-4 lead.

Wilson finished the game with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Mathews picked up the offensive lead for RC in the second quarter. She poured in eight of her 15 points in the frame and spearheaded a 19-12 spree that sent the Lady Rangers into the half holding a 32-16 lead.

Wilson added four points in the second. Giordin Johnson added a three-pointer while Angel Reese and She'Ray Wilson chipped in two apiece.

Mathews also netted 11 boards in the contest. Johnson tallied seven assists.

The Lady Rangers finished off the win with a 26-21 run in the second half.

Taylor Phouangaphayvong led all Cisco scorers with eight points. Chade Gladney and Ariel Gutierrez added five apiece.
