Lady Rangers fall short against Cisco

CISCO – The Cisco Lady Wranglers scored 20 points in each of the final two quarters on Saturday and eked out a tough 74-68 victory over the Ranger College Lady Wranglers in a key Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference matchup.

With the win, Cisco moved into a five-way tie for first in the conference standings with a 5-2 record. Weatherford College, Collin County, Hill College and Grayson College also stand at 5-2 heading into Wednesday's contests. Ranger fell to 4-3 and into sixth in the NTJCAC standings.

Ruby Angok helped Ranger hold its own early. The 6-foot-3 sophomore from Grand Rapids, Mich., pumped in several shots from within the paint and spearheaded RC's offense to a 17-point outburst.

Cisco, 16-3 overall, battled back in the second. Traeli Calhoun and Keviona Barber helped the Lady Wranglers reel off a 17-14 run in the period and sent the Lady Wranglers into the half with a 34-31 advantage.

Ranger, 14-6, caught fire in the third period. The Lady Rangers rode the hot hands of Shan'Qaylia Stanton and Kylah Mize to 20 points in the third.

Stanton continued to carry the hot hand in the fourth. She sank a shot midway through the final frame that put RC on top, 42-40.

Stanton, Angok and Mize all finished the game with 10 points. Jaylan Gulley and Marshalia Lollie both added nine, while Oksanna Williams chipped in seven.

Ny'Keria Jones also played well for the Lady Rangers. She paced the RC defense with 11 rebounds.

Calhoun and Barber both scored 22 for Cisco.

The Lady Rangers will close out the first half of NTJCAC action on Wednesday when they host Grayson College in the Ron Butler Gym. Action will begin at 5:30 p.m.
