Ranger College golf team ranked No. 9 nationally

You'll have to forgive Ranger College men's golf coach Houston Moore if he happens to feel a lot like Captain James T. Kirk. Like the Star Trek captain, Moore is guiding the Ranger's golf program to places it has never been.

Namely among the nation's top 10.

The Ranger College men's golf team cracked the national top 10 rankings last week when the latest Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division I poll was released. The Rangers used a solid showing at their first two meets of the season to climb to No. 9.

"I'm proud of these guys," said Moore. "As nice as this is for us, we need to remember the season doesn't end until May."

Overall, Ranger was one of five Region V teams to be ranked in the top 10, including top-ranked Midland College. Also making the list was New Mexico Junior College, who tied Indian Hills Community College for second in the poll. Odessa College, who had entered the season ranked No. 3 nationally, was penciled in at No. 7, one spot ahead of rival Western Texas College of Snyder.

Western Texas received 12 points in the biweekly poll, two more than Ranger College.

The Ranger College men's team will return to action on Oct. 22 when they compete in the Tyler Junior College Invitational.
