Rangers begin preparations for new season

The Ranger College men's basketball program officially began preparations on Jan. 6 for what they hope will be a third consecutive Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference championship and a return to the NJCAA national tournament. The team, along with new head coach Larry Brown, went through preseason drills during their first day on campus following the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

"I'm excited to be back at Ranger College," said Brown, who previously guided the RC men's team to back-to-back conference titles in 2012 and 2013. "We have got a great group of guys to work with. We're excited about getting to work."

A former Division I coach, Brown replaced former RC assistant James Stafford at the helm of the Rangers' program recently. Stafford left Ranger prior to the Christmas break to pursue other opportunities.

Back to lead the Rangers on the court is sophomore sensations Keisei Tominaga and Jorell Saterfield. The two helped lead RC to a 28-3 record last season - and a second consecutive invitation to the national tournament.

Ranger is scheduled to scrimmage Trinity Valley Community College and Paris Junior College on Jan. 13 in the Rob Butler Gymnasium. The team will open its 2021 season on Jan. 21 against Clarendon, the reigning Western Junior College Athletic Conference champion.
