Grayson stuns top-ranked RC

The Ranger College men's basketball team suffered only its second loss of the season on Jan. 30 when they dropped a tough 101-93 decision to Grayson College in Denison.

With the loss, Ranger College fell to 21-2 overall, and to 6-1 in NTJCAC action.

The Vikings, led by a stellar effort from point guard D.J. Thomas, jumped on top in the first half. The Vikings outscored a cold-shooting RC squad by a 46-34 clip in the first 20 minutes of action. As a team, the Rangers shot just 29 percent from behind the three-point line against Grayson.

"We didn't play very well defensively," said Ranger head coach Billy Gillispie. "We'll try and come out (against Collin) and do a better job."

Ranger rallied to within three early in the second half. The rally ran out of steam, however. The Vikings posted a 59-55 run in the final half to seal the win.

Brayan Au highlighted a list of five RC players to score into double figures. The sophomore standout poured in 23 points. Montre Gipson and Jorell Saterfield both added 20, while Kenton Eskridge and Keisei Tominaga added 16 and 10, respectively.

Thomas led all scorers with 36 points.
