Baseball Conference Clash Ends in Split: Ranger College and Hill College Each Claim a Win

RANGER, Texas — The Ranger College Rangers and Hill College Rebels split an important conference doubleheader Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

Game 1 Recap:

Hill College took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Ranger College responded in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs, then added two more in the bottom of the fifth. The Rebels rallied with two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Rangers held on for a 6-4 victory.

Sean Gardiner, Koen Piepkorn, and Michael Lozano each drove in two runs for the Rangers. Ashton Fisher led the team with two hits in three at-bats.

Landon Gutierrez earned the win, pitching all seven innings. He allowed six hits and four runs (two earned), striking out six and walking one.

Game 2 Recap:

Ranger College jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Hill College answered in the top of the second, scoring eight runs on five hits to take an 8-1 advantage. The Rebels added one run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings, bringing their score to eleven.

The Rangers erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Connor Schlegel, recording his first college career hit, singled and scored a run. Jayden Brown followed with a two-run single. Sean Gardiner, Ashton Fisher, and Tui Amosa each drew a walk, scoring a run, and Michael Lozano singled in another run, bringing their score to eight. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Gardiner singled, driving in a run, bringing the overall score to 11-9. 

Eli Heyen started the game but was replaced in the second inning. Dawson Brosnaham pitched four innings of relief, allowing two hits and one run while striking out five and walking none.

The Rangers and Rebels will meet again for a doubleheader in Hillsboro, Texas, on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
