Rangers sweep twinbill from Arlington Baptist JV

The top four batters in the Ranger College lineup created more than power to carry the Rangers to an impressive sweep of the Arlington Baptist junior varsity on March 27. The top four combined for 14 hits, 22 runs and 20 RBI in front of the home fans at Ellis Burks Field.

With the win, Ranger College claimed its third win in its last four outings and improved to 23-13 for the year.

The Rangers dominated Arlington Baptist early on. After Emir Encalada has shut out Arlington Baptist in the top of the first, J.T. Thompson, Michael Torres-Idrogo, Jaxon Haynes and Joshua Comeaux cranked up the offense. The four spearheaded a 9-run outburst in the home half of the frame.

Ranger College never looked back. RC stretched its lead to 15-0 in the second with six more runs. Thay tacked on four more in the third and staked Encalada to a commanding 19-0 cushion.

Encalada, who worked three innings, picked up the win, improving to 4-2 for the year. Byron Madero closed out the game.

The RC offense was the big story in Game 1. Thompson, Torres-Idrogo, Haynes and Comeaux went 9-for-10 from and scored 12 runs. Thompson finished the game with a 3-for-3 effort with a triple. Torres-Idrogo and Haynes, both of whom went 2-for-2, and Comeaux, who went 2-for-3, all clubbed home runs and tallied four RBI apiece.

Arlington Baptist's lone run came in the top of the fifth.

Ranger completed the sweep in Game 2 by pounding out a 16-0 decision.

Torres-Idrogo and Comeaux led a 13-hit effort by the Rangers with a pair of hits. Both homered in the nightcap.

Comeaux finished the game by going 2-for-3 with four RBI.

Robert Oropeza also turned in a solid effort at the plate. He was 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Joseph Lee garnered the win for the Rangers. He hurled a 5-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts and improved to a team-leading 7-3 record.

The Rangers will return to action on April 3 when they travel to Hillsboro for a showdown with Hill College. The doubleheader can be viewed on TSBN.com.
