RC women shine at Texas Showcase

The Ranger College women's volleyball didn't have many wins to show for their efforts at the inaugural Texas Collegiate Volleyball Showcase. They did, however, gain a lot of respect … and experience against top-notch talent.

The Lady Rangers posted a 1-3 record in the two-day tournament, which was co-sponsored by Cisco College. Games were played in both the Cisco College gym as well as Ranger's Ron Butler Gym on Sept. 6-7

The Lady Rangers opened the tournament with a solid showing against Laredo College. The Palominos entered the tournament at 7-2 for the season, dealt RC a tough 3-1 setback. Ranger bounced back nicely  in its second game, downing Garden City Community College, 3-0, in front of a loud crowd.

On Saturday, Ranger dropped a tough 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 decision to perennial national power Cowley College of Kansas in the first game. Despite the loss, Jordan Mahan and Reanna Miller both played well. Mahan tallied 25 digs, while Miller contributed 22 digs. Freshman hitter Kaycie Shannon led the team with eight kills.

Ranger dropped a thriller in its final outing, falling 3-2 in five sets to New Mexico Junior College. NMJC took a 25-17, 25-27, 16-25, 25-18, 15-11 win.

Macey Jordon and Jordan Brown led all RHS hitters, Macey registered 14 kills. Brown added 10 ore.

Miller keyed a stingy RC defense. She finished with 20 digs. Teammates Camryn Bevins and Billie Roberts also posted double-digit dig effort, finishing with 13 and 10, respectively.
