Lady Rangers sweep past SWCID, MVC

The Ranger College women's volleyball team finished off the month of August with a bang on Thursday evening. The Lady Rangers swept past SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf and Mountain Valley College in a non-conference doubleheader in the Ron Butler Gymnasium in Ranger.

Ranger didn't waste any time in getting its offense going against SouthWest. They rolled to an easy 25-2, 25-4, 25-5 decision in the best-of-five series.

"I though we did very well," said sophomore Briana Maxwell. "We executed the ball nicely and took care of free balls."

In the second game, the Lady Rangers got off to a quick start against Mountain View, building a 2-0 lead behind the play of Maxwell, sophomore Hannah Brink and freshman Macey Jordan with wins of 25-16 and 25-18.

Mountain View managed to fight its way back in the third game, however. The Lady Lions battled to a 10-10 tie before Ranger hit stride. The Lady Rangers scored 15 of the next 19 points to claim the win.

"That was our error," said Maxwell. "We needed to take care of our ball and let them make the errors. We ended up doing good."

With the victories, Ranger nailed down its fourth consecutive win and finished the month with a 4-4 record.

Their recent success has the players feeling positive heading into its upcoming road trip to Kansas.

"I think we are a lot better than last year," said sophomore Brenlee Jones. "We hustle more. We're louder and we communicate. We better the ball. We have a lot better chemistry than we did. In the beginning, we had some trouble, but and we're making less errors and getting the ball down."

Ranger will return home on Sept. 12 to face North Lake College.
