Ranger Women’s Basketball Open 2026 with Statement Redemption Win
RANGER, Texas — January 2, 2026 — The Ranger College women's basketball team opened the new year with an emphatic 72–54 home victory over the Coastal Bend College Cougars on Thursday night at Ron Butler Gymnasium. The win served as a statement performance for the Lady Rangers, who avenged a 70–61 loss to Coastal Bend earlier this season in Beeville on December 5.
Strong Start Sets the Tone
Ranger came out with energy on both ends of the floor, building an early lead and maintaining control throughout the game. The Rangers' defensive pressure and balanced offensive attack helped them pull away in the second half and secure the 18-point win.
Balanced Offensive Effort
The Rangers saw contributions up and down the lineup, with multiple players scoring in double figures and strong production off the bench. Ranger's ability to move the ball and convert in transition proved to be the difference, as they shot efficiently while limiting Coastal Bend's scoring opportunities.
Defensive Presence
Defensively, Ranger forced turnovers and controlled the boards, holding the Cougars to just 54 points. The Rangers' ability to contest shots and finish defensive possessions allowed them to steadily extend their lead as the game wore on.
Looking Ahead
With the win, Ranger College gains momentum heading into conference play. The Rangers will open their league schedule on Wednesday, January 7, traveling to Temple, TX, to face Temple College in their conference opener.
