Lady Rangers improve to 10-0

Paige Granstaff pumped in a season-high 23 points and Angel Reese added 14 more on Sunday and helped power the Ranger College women's basketball team to a thrilling 63-55 come-from-behind victory over Arkansas State Mid-South in a non-conference showdown in the Ron Butler Gymnasium.

The victory kept Ranger College's season record unblemished at 10-0.

The Lady Rangers, who forced Arkansas State Mid-South into 25 turnovers, had to fight their way back from a late deficit to claim the win. Ranger trailed by as much as five points at the start of the fourth quarter.

The Lady Rangers got off to a quick start. They outscored Arkansas State Mid-South by an 18-15 clip in the first 10 minutes of play thanks, in part, to the outside shooting of Granstaff and Angel Kelly.

Granstaff sank three three-point shots in the contest, giving her eight treys in the Lady Rangers' last two outings. In RC's win over Howard College and Mid-South, the sophomore from Dodd City has shot just under 30 percent from behind the three-point arc.

Mid-South fought its way back, however. They posted a 13-11 run in the second quarter and entered the half down by just one, at 29-28.

Mid-South used a 21-15 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half to build a 49-44 advantage.

Keyed by three steals that were turned into easy baskets by Granstaff, RC roared back in the fourth. Ranger nailed down the win with a 19-6 run.

Kelly and She-Ray Wilson played well for RC. Kelly finished with nine points. Wilson added eight. Both Kelly and Wilson collected a team-high seven rebounds.

Ranger College will return to play on Dec. 4 when they host the University of the Southwest junior varsity. Game time will be 5 p.m.
