Weatherford hands RC a 76-73 loss

The Weatherford College Lady Coyotes dealt the Ranger College Lady Rangers a tough blow on Monday at the Betty Jo Crumm Graber Athletic Complex in Weatherford. The Lady Coyotes reeled off 24 third-quarter points and then held on to claim a 76-73 victory in front of their home fans.

The loss was Ranger's second straight loss in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play and dropped the RC women to fifth in the standings at 3-2 heading into Wednesday's showdown with Temple College at home.

Ranger College, now 13-5 overall, held its own in the first half. Sparked by the play of Ruby Angok, Shan'Qaylia Stanton and Kylah Mize, the RC women outscored Weatherford in the second quarter and went into the half trailing by just two, at 37-35,

The Lady Coyotes, who lead the NTJCAC race with a 5-0 record, hit stride in the third. They outscored Ranger 24-16 and took a 61-51 lead into the fourth.

The Lady Rangers roared back in the final 10 minutes to get within striking distance. Ranger pounded out 22 points in the final frame.

Angok led all RC scorers with 17 points. She also grabbed a team-high eight boards. Stanton and Mize pushed in 15 and 13 points, respectively. Oksanna Williams added 12.

Ny'Keria Jones was second on the team in rebounds with seven.
