Rangers avenge loss to Western Texas with 71-63 victory

Ranger had the rare opportunity Monday night to get revenge for a non-conference loss when they played host to Western Texas. RC used a 14-7 run to break open a two-possession halftime lead early in the second half, WTC got to within single digits on a number of occasions but was unable to make it interesting losing 71-63.

Ranger led just 30-25 after the first half, Keyshaad Dixon put RC up 37-25 with a 3-pointer less than three minutes into the half. Caleb Smith converted an and-one sandwiched between a pair of Akiem Daschner layups and Ranger led 44-27 with 15 minutes to play.

Nigel Allen kept the Westerners in the game with his long-range shooting as WTC answered the Ranger run with a 27-16 spurt of their own, which got them to within 60-54 with just over five to play.

Crishawn Cook came up with a steal and converted an and-one of his own that quickly put the Rangers back up by 10, 64-54 with just four minutes remaining.

Daschner led Ranger with 18 points. Cook and Smith each had 13.

Ranger will get another chance to avenge its other loss Friday when they take on Angelina College at 7 p.m.
