Rangers remain perfect with 3 wins in Midland Tournament
MIDLAND – With just under four minutes left in their third game in three days, Ranger found itself with just a one-point lead, 62-61 over Tohono O'odham. Much like they did throughout the Midland Tournament, Ranger locked down on the defensive end and closed the game on an 11-4 run to improve to 6-0 with a 73-65.
O'odham got within a single point on a handful of occasions throughout the second half, Crishawn Cook went on a 4-0 run before the Jegos cut the lead back to one. At the line with a chance to tie the game, TOCC only made one-of-two and never got that close again.
Akiem Daschner was the only Ranger in double figures with 15.
The tournament started Thursday against Central Arizona College and Ranger used an even longer run to take the Vaquero's out of the game in the first half. CAC led Ranger 21-20 midway through the first half. RC closed the half on a Daschner 3-pointer that capped a 16-2 run and sparked Ranger to a 90-59 win.
Ranger had 13 players score at least a bucket led by Jevon Antony and his 22 points. Daschner added 16 and six boards.
Sandwiched between the two pull away wins, was a matchup Scale Academy. There was no comeback or breakaway run needed as Ranger won going away 107-67.
At the half, RC led 61-28 and never gave Scale Academy to get back in the game.
Ranger had five players score in double figures led by Malik Archer who scored 20. Caleb Smith had 19. Cook added 14. Royce Hunter had 11 and Anthony chipped in with 10.
It was the second time in five games Ranger scored over 100 points and they did so making just four three-point shots.
Ranger will be back home on Tuesday against the tournament host Midland College.
