Lady Rangers nab first NTJCAC win

Camryn Bevins served up five straight points on Monday to help the Ranger College women's volleyball team get off to a quick start against Southwestern Christian College. The rest, as they say, was all downhill.

Ranger College, which benefitted from strong performances at the net from freshman Kaycie Shannon and sophomore Macey Jordon, picked up its first conference victory of the season by grinding out a 3-0 win over the Lady Rams in the Ron Butler Gymnasium. Ranger swept the best-of-five series 25-12, 25-13 and 25-9.

After SWCC had taken a quick lead in Game 1, Bevins came off the bench to begin the rout. The sophomore reeled off five straight service points and staked RC to a 5-1 advantage.

Ranger never looked back from there.

Jordon finished the contest with a team-high six kills. Freshman sensation Trinity Hale added four kills, while teammates Emeleigh Terry, Shannon, Kennedy Smith and Jordan Brown all contributed three. Taylor Brann finished with 13 assists

As a team, RC had 29 kills against SWCC, which fell to 0-9 for the season.

The Lady Rangers, who defeated Seminole State College in three sets on the previous Saturday, improved to 7-9 heading into this weekend's doubleheader action with Southwest College for the Deaf and Cedar Valley College. More importantly, the Lady Rangers improved to 1-2 in NTJCAC play.

Ranger will face Southwest College for the Deaf at 11 a.m. They will face off against Cedar Valley starting at 3 p.m.
