Lady Rangers kick their way into Region 5 lead

Heading into Tuesday's showdown with cross-county rival Cisco College, Ranger College head coach Rafael Gonzalez called his team together and popped the top on a Dr. Pepper. The message was simple. Play hard and enjoy the sweets when they come.

The message was just what the doctor ordered for the Lady Rangers as they kicked themselves to a 5-0 victory over Cisco and, in doing so, kept their season record unblemished at 4-0. Even more importantly, the RC women kicked themselves into first place in the Region V standings for the first time in four years.

With the win, Ranger College moved to 2-0 in conference play with showdowns against Western Texas College and Hill College looming.

Just how dominating have the Ranger College women been through the first half of their schedule? Consider these numbers: In their last four games, the Lady Rangers have outscored their opponents by a combined margin of 20-1. In their two regional wins, they have scored nine goals while allowing just one.

Ranger College, which is scheduled to travel to Brookhaven on Sept. 10, will return to regional play on Sept. 17 when they host Western Texas College, beginning at 2 p.m. at Rangers Field. They will play 9th-ranked Hill College on Sept. 17, starting at 2 p.m., in Ranger.

Hill College, 2-0-1, has won the women's regional title six of the past seven seasons.
