Ranger College women climb into second in Region V race

Fabiola Gonzalez kicked the Ranger College women's soccer team into the Region V championship talk on Friday. The sophomore midfielder booted a goal late in the first half on Sept. 14 and then watched on as the RC defense made the point stand up in a nail-biting 1-0 victory over rival Cisco College in a key Region V showdown.

With the victory, Ranger moved to 5-2 for the season and, more importantly, moved into sole possession of second place in the regional standings. The Lady Rangers, who have reeled off four straight wins, trail Hill College for the top spot in the division by one game.

"We came out with a win and that was the most important thing," said Gonzalez. "It (the victory) was really important. We're in second place in the conference now. We're going to keep practicing and come back stronger."

Defensively, Ranger College played well against Cisco. The Lady Rangers allowed the Lady Wranglers just four shots on the goal in the 90-minute matchup.

The Ranger women are scheduled to return to play on Sept. 22 with a game against Jacksonville College on the road.
