Lady Rangers upend Western Texas in Region V thriller

The Ranger College women's soccer team moved atop the Region V soccer standings on Friday afternoon by kicking its way to a 3-1 victory over the Western Texas Lady Westerners on a rain-soaked Rangers Field. Ranger scored twice in the final 25 minutes of the matchup to claim the victory.

With the win, Ranger College improved to 1-1 in Region V play.

"In the second half, we gave ourselves more chances and played a better game," said sophomore Tonny Pereria. "We're happy for that. It was a very important game for us because it was against a team within our region."

Pereria helped propel the Lady Rangers to their third win in their last four outings with a game-clinching goal in the 82nd minute of play. Her goal put Ranger up 3-1 with just under seven minutes left in the contest.

Hailey Gutierrez and Ariana Alba staked Ranger to an early lead in the first half. Alba took a pass from Gutierrez in front of the goal at the 54-minute mark of the half and drilled it past the Western Texas goalie.

Western Texas answered minutes later, scoring a goal at the 58-minute mark to tie the affair at 1-1.

Sophomore Paola Camacho gave the Lady Rangers the lead again eight minutes later with a goal. Alba recorded an assist on the play.

Ranger College added to its win total on Saturday by grinding out a 6-0 non-conference win over Southwest Adventist. University The RC women scored three goals in each half en route to improving to 3-2 overall.

Lessley Bermudez paced the RC attack against Southwest by scoring two goals. Camacho, Pereria, Claudia Vizcaino and Fabiola Gonzalez also added goals.
