Quick start helps Temple upend RC women

The Temple College Lady Leopards reeled off a 22-11 run in the second quarter on Wednesday and held on to claim a tough 65-54 victory over the Ranger College women's basketball team in a crucial NTJCAC showdown in Temple.

The Lady Leopards found their offensive game early against Ranger. Temple College outscored Ranger by a 34-19 clip in the first two quarters of play. Ranger struggled to convert from the floor throughout the opening half. As a team, RC shot well below 50 percent from the field in the first half.

The Lady Rangers, who saw their losing streak reach a season-high three games, got the offense in gear in the second half. Alena Wilson pushed home a couple of buckets in the first 10 minutes of the half and helped RC grind out an 18-point third-quarter effort.

Ranger College continued to hit in the fourth. The Lady Rangers cut into Temple's lead by piecing together a 17-13 spree in the closing moments.

With the loss, Ranger fell to 16-4 for the season, and to 2-4 in conference play.
