Lady Rangers improve to 6-0

The Ranger College women's basketball team continued its impressive start to the 2019-20 season this past weekend with a sweep of its three games at the Coastal Bend Classic in Beeville.

Paige Granstaff helped RC pull off its biggest victory of the season in the first round, downing highly-touted Blinn College by a 71-70 margin on Thursday.

In the win, Granstaff highlighted a list of four RC starters to score into double figures by throwing in 19 points. Bre'Asiajah Mathews added 15 more, while She'Ray Wilson and Alena Wilson added 13 and 12, respectively.

Ranger also picked up outstanding efforts from Angel Kelly and Angel Reese. Kelly recorded eight assists on offense and sparked a gutsy defensive effort by coming away with a game-high seven steals. Reese led the team with eight rebounds.

Ranger didn't have any trouble finishing off its appearance in the Classic. The Lady Rangers rode a career-best effort by Reese to an easy 68-49 win over Coastal Bend on Friday, and then posted an 86-30 rout of Palo Alto on Saturday.

In the win over Coastal Bend, Reese led RC with her first double-double of the season. She finished with 11 points and a career-best 16 rebounds.

Giordin Johnson led the RC scoring with 16 points. Granstaff added 12.

Reese led a balanced scoring attack by Ranger in the win over Palo Alto. One of 11 Lady Rangers to score in the contest, Reese pushed in a team-high 17 points. She'Ray Wilson added 15, while Alena Wilson contributed eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.
