Reese scores 26 in Lady Rangers' home opener

Angel Reese scored a career-high 26 points and newcomer Paige Granstaff pumped in 19 more on Tuesday and powered the Ranger College Lady Rangers to an impressive 68-59 victory over the Jacksonville College Lady Jaguars in their 2019-20 home opener.

With the victory, Ranger ran its season record to 2-0.

Reese, one of three returnees from the Lady Rangers' Region V tournament-qualifying squad from a year ago, starred in the first game of her sophomore season. The Amarillo native knocked down 10 shots from the floor, including a clutch three-pointer third quarter that helped Ranger begin pulling away. Overall, she finished with a game-high 26 points.

Jacksonville, now 1-1, stayed close in the first 10 minutes of play. The Lady Jaguars used a pair of three-pointers from Ce'Leyah Burrell to fight themselves to within one, at 16-15, at the end of the first.

Reese and Granstaff came up big for RC in the first. Reese scored half of the Lady Rangers' initial 16 points. Granstaff added four more.

Reese continued to wield the hot hand for Ranger in the second. She pushed in 11 in the frame and keyed a 22-13 run that pushed RC into the half with a 10-point lead, at 38-28.

She'Ray Wilson also played well in the second, tossing in six of her eight points.

Ranger extended its lead to 14 in the third with a 15-11 run.

Granstaff helped RC put the finishing touches on the win with a solid showing in the fourth. The Dodd City standout pushed in her third three-pointer of the contest in the final minutes and helped the Lady Rangers weather a 20-point run by Jacksonville in the final 10 minutes.

Granstaff scored seven of RC's final 15 points.

Ranger College's next outing will come on Nov. 7 when they travel to Dallas to face off with the Paul Quinn College junior varsity.
