Stanton among 6 RC stars moving on

Ranger College women's head basketball coach Bill Foy always felt he had recruited some of the top athletes in the U.S. a few seasons ago. His feelings were proved true recently when six sophomore members of his Region V tournament-qualifying team inked deals with four-year universities.

"I couldn't be more proud of every one of them," said Foy. "They worked hard and helped us reach the regional tournament in each of their seasons here. They deserve this opportunity, and I can't wait to follow their careers."

Among the biggest signings came in the form of sophomore guard Shan'Qaylia Stanton, who agreed to a deal with Eastern Kentucky University. The Lady Rangers' top scorer in 2018-18, Stanton was an all-conference, all-region and an honorable mention all-American selection this season.

Stanton shot 43 percent from the field for the Lady Rangers and 35 percent from the three-point range, while also leading Region V in assists.

At EKU, Stanton will be joining a Colonels team that will be looking to put a disastrous 2018-19 season behind them. EKU went 2-28 this season and finished last in the Ohio Valley Conference. Louisville assistant coach Samantha Williams was recently hired to take over the EKU program.

Kylah Mize, Marshalia Lollie and Ny'Keria "Keke" Jones also signed deals to continue playing.

A 5-7 guard Mize signed with the University of West Georgia.

A native of Georgia, she spent two seasons at Ranger College. Last season, despite battling injuries, she played in 24 games, averaging 7.2 points per game while shooting 34.4 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from behind the arc while being named honorable mention all-conference.

As a freshman, in the 2017-18 season, Mize led RC in scoring with 11.2 points per game. Mize also was a selection to the NJCAA All-Star Game and was named first-team all-Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference and first-team all-region.

Lollie will be joining the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith this season. A two-year standout at Ranger, Lollie will be joining a UAFS squad that went 10-18 last season, including a 7-7 mark in Heartland Conference play. Lollie was honorable mention all-conference both seasons at Ranger. She averaged seven points and seven rebounds this season.

Jones signed with Louisiana State University-Shreveport and will be joining a squad that went 11-7 in the Red River Conference. Overall, the Lady Pilots went 15-13.

Jones averaged seven points and seven rebounds per game for the Lady Rangers this season and earned honorable mention all-conference accolades.

Ruby Angol and Kiara Pesina also signed. Angok, a standout from Michigan, signed to play at Texas Southern, while Pesina earned a spot with York College.
