Stanton earns All-Region honors

Shan'Qaylia Stanton capped an impressive sophomore season with the Ranger College Lady Rangers recently when she was selected to the 2019 NJCAA All-Region V Basketball Team.

Stanton was among 12 players from the Northern Texas and Western junior college athletic conferences named to the squad. Overall, players from 10 different teams were selected, including three from South Plains College.

Stanton starred for Ranger College this season. She finished as the Lady Rangers' top scorer and among the conference leaders in several categories, including scoring and assists. Behind Stanton, Ranger posted a 20-11 record and advanced to the Region V Basketball Championships for the third season in a row.

During the season, she averaged 14.7 points and 5.2 assists per game.

Joining Stanton on the all-region squad were South Plains' Sarah Shemati, Keyneso Barber and Gabbie Green. Also selected to the team were Collin County's Destiny Thurman, New Mexico Junior College's Thanires Andrade, Hill's Jade Compton, Odessa's Kamryn Lemon, Grayson's Manna Mensah, Midland's Grace Beasley, Cisco's Keviona Barber and Weatherford's Destiny McAfee.
