Lady Rangers put four on all-NTJCAC roster

The Ranger College Lady Rangers turned more than a few heads on the basketball court this season en route to reaching the Region V Basketball Championships for the third straight season. As a result, the Lady Rangers had their fingerprints all over the 2019 All-Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Association postseason awards.

Ranger had four players, including co-Defensive Player of the year Jaylan Gulley and all-world guard Shan'Qaylia Stanton, honored on the All-NTJCAC roster. Angel Reese and Ny'Keria Jones also earned high praise from the conference coaches.

Stanton was among 12 players to earn first-team all-conference honors. The sophomore standout ranked among the NTJCAC's leaders in scoring, assists, steals and three-point percentage en route to guiding RC to a 20-11 record.

A native of Fayetteville, Georgia, Stanton led Ranger in scoring this past season, averaging 14.7 points per game in 31 starts. Her scoring average was the seventh-highest in Region V.

Like Stanton, Gulley was a sparkplug for the Lady Rangers, especially in defense. A Dallas native, she shared the conference's defensive player of the year accolades with Weatherford's Destiny McAfee.

Reese and Jones, both key players on both ends of the court for RC this season, were named to the honorable mention all-conference roster, as was Gulley.

Collin's Destiny Thurman was tabbed the conference's Player of the Year, while Grayson's Manna Mensah was voted the Freshman of the Year recipient. Hill College head coach Scott Hyland was named the 2019 Coach of the Year.
