South Plains rallies for win over Ranger

The Ranger College women's basketball team saw its 2018-19 season come to a bitter end on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the Region V Women's Basketball Championships. A real bitter end.

South Plains rallied from a deficit early in the second half and escaped with a 50-44 decision at Abilene Christian University's Moody Coliseum in Abilene, Texas. The Lady Texans outscored Ranger by a 6-2 clip down the stretch to clinch a berth in the regional semifinals.

With the loss, Ranger closed out its season with a 20-11 record.

The Lady Rangers, who entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed from the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, dominated the third quarter. Backed by solid play from Shan'Qaylia Stanton, Ruby Angok and Marshalia Lollie, Ranger owned the early minutes of the second half and built a six-point cushion.

Unfortunately for RC, South Plains caught fire at the end.

South Plains, the No. 3-ranked team in the latest NJCAA women's Division I rankings, came into the tournament at 26-2.
