Ranger women roll past Mountain View

Giordin Johnson pumped in 16 points and Angel Reese added 14 more on Monday night and led the Ranger College women's basketball team to a 71-35 rout of the Mountain View College Lady Lions in non-conference basketball action in the Ron Butler Gymnasium.

The Lady Rangers salted away their eighth win in nine outings with a dominating third-quarter performance. Ranger College blew open the contest with a 22-4 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

With Ranger leading by a 28-14 clip at the half, Johnson helped Ranger shift into high gear at the start of the third. The New Orleans native buried a clutch three-point shot midway through the period to spark the RC offense. Oksonna Williams and Kiara Pesina also chipped in three-pointers in the run.

As a team, the Lady Rangers picked up third-quarter points from six different players, including five from Johnson. Jaylan Gulley added four. Pesina, Oksonna Williams and Ny'Keria Williams added three each, while Ruby Angok chipped in two.

Reese and Destiny Brossard took over in the fourth and powered the Ranger women to a 36-point victory. Reese pushed home six of her double-digit total in the final minutes. Brossard scored all five of her points in the fourth.

Ranger College, who was slated to play a team from Australia on Wednesday (Dec. 5), will close out its quick three-game homestand this Saturday with a showdown against Howard College starting at 2 p.m.

Howard College handed Ranger its lone setback last month by netting a 57-55 victory in Big Spring on Nov. 12.
