Brown, RC rodeo team caps Centennial celebration

Trace Brown capped the Ranger Task Force's three-day centennial celebration with plenty of hop … and bumps.

Brown, who will compete for the Ranger College rodeo team this coming season, highlighted the Ranger Centennial Rodeo by winning top honors in the bull riding competition. Brown was among several current and former RC rodeo stars to compete in the event, held at the Ranger Rodeo Area on Sunday.

"It was a great event for everyone," said Ranger College head rodeo coach Llew Rust. "We were glad to put it on as part of the centennial."

While Brown topped the bull riding competition, Dakota Felton walked away with first place in the tie down roping event. Felton, a current RC rodeo standout, edged out Landon Koehn, a member of last season's rodeo squad.

Kenna Sullivan and Kathryn Todd tied for first in the breakaway standings.

Todd was also among several competitors in the barrel racing event that was won by Paige Wilson. Makenzie Wansing placed second.

Todd, Wilson and Wansing are members of Rust's current RC rodeo squad.

Tarleton State University's Jake Burwash won the saddle bronc event. He edged out TSU teammate Rhett Fanning in the final point standings.

Luke Maguire and Tyler Manion walked away with top honors in the team roping competition. The two edged out Jared Smith and Kasper Blackwell in the standings.
