Magana, Espinoza shine at TTU Masked Rider Open

Laytham Magana and Juan Luis Espinoza made sure everyone knew Ranger College was noticed at Texas Tech University's Masked Rider Open meet on May 4. The two powered their way to the top of the 3,000-meter men's steeplechase standings.

A freshman from DeBeque, Colorado, Magana notched his first victory of the 2019 season with a stellar performance in Lubbock. He powered his way to a winning time of 10 minutes, 40.99 seconds. His final mark was more than 18 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Espinoza gave Ranger a second medal in the race by taking third in the final standings. He finished with a mark od 12:01.25.

The Rangers also picked up solid performances from three other members of the squad, including Jahlil Howard, Daniel De La Cruz Flores and Gilberto Palomo.

Howard raced his way to fifth in the men's 5,000-meter race. He finished the event with a time of 15:49.98.

Flores and Palomo also did well in the 5,000-meter race. De La Cruz Flores was 10th overall at 16:28.55, while Palomo was 12th at 16:54.60.
