Rios breaks 400-meter record A&M-Commerce meet
Luis Rios made sure his name will be remembered at Ranger College last week at the Texas A&M-Commerce Track and Field Invitational. The freshman etched his name into the record books by highlighting the Rangers' efforts at the April 12 meet.
"Nearly all of our runners ran season or personal best times," said RC head coach Kathy Graham.
Rios added his name to the men's record books with a dynamic effort in the 400-meter dash. He sprinted his way to a time of 51.83 seconds and eased his way past former RC standout Roy Spells.
Spells set the Rangers' all-time mark of 52.58 seconds in the event in 2014.
Ranger College also picked up outstanding efforts from Jahlil Howard, Gilberto Palomo, Daniel De La Cruz Flores and Loic Rossignaud.
Howard powered his way to a fourth-place finish in the men's 5,000-meter race. He turned in a time of 15:36.65. Palomo and De La Cruz Flores placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 5,000-meter standings. Palomo ran a 16:02.96, while De La Cruz Flores checked in at 16:04.32.
Rossignaud starred in the men's 1,500, running his way to eighth overall with a time of 4:08.06.
Laytham Magana was 21st in the race at 4:21.58.
Rossignaud also led RC's efforts in the 800. He finished 12th at 2"04.43. Palomo took 15th at 2:06.10, while Edward Njunguna was 19th at 2:12.45.
Ranger College will return to action on April 24 at the ACU Twilight meet in Abilene, Texas.
