Ranger golfers third at Texas Intercollegiate
The Ranger College men's golf team picked up right where they left off last season this past weekend – among the best in the nation. The Rangers, paced by a stellar outing by Jacob Skov Olesen, placed third in the final team standings at the 2019 Texas Intercollegiate Tournament in Westworth Village.
Ranger, which entered the season ranked No. 9 nationally in the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division I polls, finished the three-round tournament with a team score of 877, 13 strokes off the winning pace set by Texas Wesleyan University.
The tournament was played on the Hawks Creek Golf Course in Fort Worth on Sept. 9-10.
Skov Olesen sparkled in his debut in the NJCAA ranks. He fired rounds of 69, 70 and 70 respectively, and walked away with the individual medalist honors. His two-round total of 209 was one stroke better than Chris Berzina of Texas Christian University.
Brandon Shong also turned in a solid showing for Ranger. He placed ninth in the individual standings with a final mark of 145. After shooting a 74 in the first round, he rallied to pencil in marks of 71 and 72 in the final 36 holes and finished in a four-way tie for ninth.
Kittiphong Phaituachreinsuk and Corbin Franco also played well. Phaituachreinsuk shot rounds of 79, 73 and 70. He finished with a total score of 222 and took 16th overall. Franco carded rounds of 79, 77 and 75 and finished 25th overall with a tally of 231.
Anthony Tan rounded out RC's effort. He placed 28th overall with a final score of 238.
