RC golfers take 3rd at TJC Invite

The Ranger College men's golf team turned in another solid outing by placing third at the Tyler Junior College Intercollegiate Invitational which was held Oct 22-23 at the Pine Springs Golf Club in Tyler. The Rangers, who are currently ranked fourth in the national junior college rankings, rolled up a score of 573 and finished just 19 strokes off the winning pace set by No. 1-ranked Midland College,

"We learned a lot from this tournament and I think the guys are ready for San Antonio this weekend,"

Mark Foelbaek continued his outstanding season. The nation's top-ranked male golfer, he carded the lowest round of the tournament on the second day of play and finished third in the medalist standings. His second-round mark of 64 was three strokes better than Midland's Luke Cooley, who took first in the individual results with a two-round total of 135.

A sophomore, Foelbaek finished with a final score of 136 - one stroke behind Midland's Callum Bruce.

Justin Kim and Brandon Geere also worked themselves into the top 10. Kim posted rounds of 70 and 71, respectively, and placed seventh with a total of 141. Geere finished with rounds of 71 and 72 and tied Midland's George Saunders for ninth at 143.

Brandon Shong gave Ranger a fourth top 15 finish. He finished in a three-way tie for 15th with a mark of 145. Tyler's Will Traylor and McLennan's Brayden Marnell also carded a 145 total.

Pheemawat Wimonrat and George Faulkner also turned in solid outings, as did Jay Garner. Wimonrat finished 25th in the individual standings with a mark of 148. Faulkner was 30th at 150, while Garner checked in at No. 41 with a total of 156.

Ranger College will return to the course on Oct. 29 when they travel to San Antonio to participate in the annual James S. Litz Memorial golf tournament on the par-71, 7,007-yard course at The Republic Golf Club.
