Howard College stunned top-ranked Ranger in front of a small crowd in the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum on Dec. 31, winning a 73-72 overtime shootout.
The Hawks, who trailed by as many as 14 in the first half, used a 12-11 run in overtime to sneak out with a victory.
The loss was Ranger's first of the season and sent the Rangers into Northern Texas Junior College action on Jan. 4 at 15-1 overall.
Ranger owned the first half. Backed by solid starts from Jorell Saterfield and Keisei Tominaga, RC outscored the Hawks by a 33-25 clip in the initial 20 minutes.
Howard worked its way back in the second half. Howard posted a 36-28 run in the final frame and tied the game at the end of regulation at 60-60.
Despite the loss, Saterfield enjoyed a solid outing for RC. He finished the game with a double-double, netting a game-high 27 points to go with 10 rebounds.
Tominaga, Kenton Eskridge and Brayan Au and also reached double figures, scoring 14 , 12 and 10, respectively.
