Rangers improve to 20-2

The Ranger College men's basketball continued its run through the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference on Wednesday by grinding out an 81-72 victory over the Grayson College Vikings at home.

Ranger, now 20-2 overall and tied with Temple College atop the conference standings with a 6-1 mark, used a dominating performance in the first 20 minutes to catapult themselves past Grayson. The Rangers built a 19-point halftime cushion in the first half and went into the half up 43-24.

Grayson, which was paced by Jaekwon Carlyle's 30 points, fought its way back in the second by grinding out 48 points.

Braden Bell, Jonathan Jackson and Coryon Mason all finished in double figures offensively for RC. Bell pushed in a team-high 18 points. Jackson and Mason added 16 and 13, respectively.

Caleb Asberry added an exclamation point to the Rangers' win with a pair of dunks that brought the large crowd in the Ron Butler Gym to their feet.

Ranger, who entered the week ranked No. 7 in the latest NJCAA Division poll, will host Collin County this Saturday. Collin County handed RC its only loss in conference play on Jan. 7 by netting a 118-111 win in triple overtime.

Saturday's game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
