Rangers run past Chaps at home

Jaren English knocked down five three-pointers and led the 11th-ranked Ranger College men's basketball to an easy 95-50 non-conference rout of the Midland College Chaparrals on Wednesday night in front of a large crowd in the Ron Butler Gymnasium.

It wasn't as close as the score might lead one to believe.

Backed by a game-high 23 points from English and 18 more from Jonathan Jackson, the RC men improved to 12-1 for the season by outgunning, outrunning and outdunking the Chaps. Ranger highlighted the romp with a series of dunks, including a behind-the-head jam by Caleb Asberry in the final minutes.

Offensively, Ranger dominated Midland from the start. The Rangers scored the first 16 points of the contest and never looked back. In the contest, RC garnered points from 11 different players.

English and Brayan Au were part of the reason Ranger College delivered the knockout blow early. The combined for 32 points in the initial 20 minutes of the game, including 18 from six three-point shots between them. English, who knocked down five treys in the opening half, netted 18 of his total points in the stanza. Au tallied 13 of his 16 in the half.

As a team, Ranger all but sealed the win with a 55-20 first-half barrage.

Asberry and Jackson took over in the second half. Asberry netted 10 of his 12 points – six coming via a pair of three-point shots – in the second half. Jackson pushed in 11 of his 18 in the frame.

As a team, RC hit 10 three-point shots in the contest.

Braden Bell and Coryon Mason also played well offensively for RC. Bell scored seven points in the contest, while Mason added six.

Ranger's scheduled home game for Saturday, Dec, 8, against Northern Oklahoma-Enid was rescheduled by college officials on Thursday due to weather forecasts. The game will now be played on Jan. 17 at 4 p.m.
