Ranger men upend No. 7 Odessa … again

The Ranger College men's basketball team is making a habit of knocking off nationally-ranked teams.

The Rangers notched their third win over a nationally-ranked team on Monday evening when they dealt the seventh-ranked Odessa College Wranglers a convincing 83-64 loss in front of a large crowd in the Ron Butler Gymnasium.

Now 11-1 for the season, the win marked the second time this season Ranger College has defeated Odessa. RC claimed an 88-82 victory over the Wranglers on Nov. 9 in a non-conference showdown held at the Chap Center in Midland.

Caleb Asberry led the Rangers offensively by throwing in a game-high 19 points. Jaren English, Coryon Mason and Braden Bell also reached double figures in the win. English, who combined with Asberry to record six of the Rangers' nine three-point shots, finished the game with 14 points. Mason and Bell added 12 and 10, respectively.

Odessa, now 11-3 for the year, managed to stay close early. The Wranglers battled their way to within 38-30 at the half.

Ranger, led by Asberry's outside shooting, blew the game open in the second half. Ranger College outscored OC by a 45-34 clip in the final 20 minutes.

The Rangers will return to action on Saturday when they host Northern Oklahoma-Enid in a non-conference matchup. The game will begin at 4 p.m.
