Ranger College men improve to 10-1 with sweep of Pirates

Brayan Au scored 36 points and Caleb Asberry added 20 more on Tuesday evening and helped carry the Ranger College men's basketball team to a convincing two-game sweep of the Victoria College Pirates with a 103-82 victory.

The Rangers, who had defeated Victoria College on Monday by a 62-point margin, moved to 10-1 heading into Monday's highly-anticipated showdown against nationally-ranked Odessa College.

Ranger used a quick start from Au and Brian Rios to put the Pirates on the defensive early. Au, a freshman from Nuedos Casa Grande in Mexico, ripped off 21 points in the first 20 minutes of the contest. Rios, a 6-foot-2 freshman from El Paso, added 10 more and powered Ranger to a 50-42 halftime advantage.

Deladris Green and Luis Rivas also helped the Rangers survive a strong push from the Pirates. Green pumped in nine points in the first half. Rivas added five.

Ranger College blew the game open in the second half. The Rangers outscored Victoria by a 53-40 clip in the final 20 minutes of action.

Asberry led the RC offensive onslaught in the second half. He pumped in all 20 of his points in the frame. Au added 15 more.

Green, Rivas and Rios all finished in double figures for RC. Green chalked up 12, while Rivas and Rios added 11 and 10, respectively.

Ranger breezed to an easy 119-57 win over Victoria in the opener of the non-conference twinbill on Monday. Ranger College garnered double-digit performances from Keyshaad Dix, Tre Thomas, Tristan Green and Braden Bell in the rout.

Green, a 6-foot-8 freshman from Boerne, led all RC scorers with 18. Thomas and Bell added 14 and 13, respectively, while Dixon chipped in 12. Rios added nine, while Deladris Green and Jaren English reeled off seven apiece.

The Rangers, who have eclipsed the 100-point mark three times in their first 11 outings, sealed the win early on. They outscored Victoria by a 65-26 margin in the first half and never looked back.
