25th-ranked Rangers improve to 3-0

Caleb Asberry pumped in 16 of his game-high 25 points in the first half of play and led the 25^th-ranked Ranger College men's basketball team to a 97-70 victory over Coastal Bend College on Monday in front of a loud crowd in the Ron Butler Gymnasium.

With the victory, Ranger improved to 3-0 for the young season.

A freshman from Austin, Asberry gave Coastal Bend's defense fits in the first 20 minutes of the contest. In that span, he buried six shots from the field, including a pair of clutch three-point shots, and sank nine of 10 opportunities from the free throw line.

Sparked by Asberry's hot start, Ranger dominated the Cougars in the first half, building a comfortable 50-29 lead at the half.

Tracy Jackson and Coryon Mason added to the Rangers' first-half barrage. Jackson tallied six points in the frame. Mason, a sophomore from Oklahoma City, chipped in five.

Former Everman High School standout Jonathan Jackson took the lead for the Rangers in the second half. The 6-foot-5 forward tossed in nine of his 13 points in the final 20 minutes to help Ranger seal the victory.

Keyshaad Dixon and Heritier Ngalamulame also came up big in the second half. Dixon tallied six of his eight points in the Rangers' 47-41 second-half run. Ngalamulame scored all five of his points in the final half, as did Jaren English.

Ranger will make its next home appearance on Nov. 14 when they host Howard College, beginning at 7 p.m.
