Bio

Scott Norwood is entering his seventh season as the head baseball coach at Ranger College.

The success of the program on the field is obvious. In his time at the helm, the Rangers have won more than 120 games and made its first appearance in the Region V Baseball Tournament in almost four decades. During that span, Norwood has helped send several players to Division I programs.

Norwood has had great success on the field with Ranger. In his first year at the RC helm, the Rangers won 23 games. The next season, the Rangers posted a 27-23 record and finished just two games shy of qualifying for the Region 5 Baseball Championships. The winning season was the first for Ranger College in more than a decade. Ranger went 13-12 in non-conference play in 2021 before the NJCAA canceled the season due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Last season, Ranger College joined the conference’s elite programs, by going 37-22 and finishing third in the NTJCAC. The 37 wins established a new record for victories. As a team, RC finished third in the conference standings – it’s best finish since the NTJCAC expanded to nine teams – and earned its first trip to the regional tournament since the mid-1980s.

Prior to taking over the Rangers, Norwood enjoyed a successful stint at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. In his six seasons at the NCAA program, Norwood guided the Trojans to almost 150 victories. In 2011, he coached UALR to the 2011 Sun Belt Conference tournament title and its first-ever appearance in the Division I regional tournament at Oregon State

A graduate of Oral Roberts University, Norwood began his head coaching career in 1998 by taking over the Mercyhurst University Lakers in Erie, Pennsylvania. That season, he took over a team that went 19-23 the season before and posted a 26-18 mark, including a 19-11 record in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

Following a season at Mercyhurst, he was named the head coach at Sterling College in Kansas and led the Warriors to three consecutive winning seasons before taking over at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He enjoyed an unprecedented 4-year run at Ouachita Baptist, leading the team to a 158-77 record. In 2008, following a 51-16 season in which he led OBU to the Division II national title game, he was named the Division II Southcentral Coach of the Year, as well as the Natural State Baseball Coach of the Year. The 51-win season was the second of two in which Ouachita Baptist reach the half-century mark in victories. They went 50-10 in 2007.

As a player, Norwood played on the Connors State (Okla.) team that advanced to the NJCAA Division I College World Series in 1985.
