RC head coach collects 600th career win

Ranger College head baseball Scott Norwood experienced a triple dose of sentimentality following his team's 8-4 victory over North Central Texas College on May 1.

Both for winning his 600th career victory – and for the long list of players than helped him reach that goal. Making it even more special was that win No. 600 in a career that seen him coach more than 1,000 games came in front at home at Ellis Burks Field.

"I'm very humbled and honored to have been able to do this long enough the get that many wins," said Norwood, who began his head coaching career at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1998. "This is something I want to share with every player and coach that I have worked with, and to all of the fans who have supported us. Each win has been a team effort so I have to give them credit."

"It's as much their record as it is mine," he added.

Win 600 came just over 4 years since he eclipsed the 500-win mark with a 24-13 decision over rival Cisco.

Under Norwood's direction, Ranger College has developed into one of the Northern Texas Junior College's top programs, posting winning records in four of his first five seasons at the helm. This season, Ranger is 31-23.

In his time at the helm of the Rangers, Norwood's teams have posted more than 100 victories. In the three seasons prior to taking over, RC was 57-110.

Following a season at Mercyhurst, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, native coached for three seasons at Sterling College in Kansas before moving to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. From there, he coached six seasons at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock before taking over RC.
