Norwood collects 500th career win

Ranger College head baseball coach Scott Norwood reached a milestone recently. Shortly before the NJCAA suspended athletic competition, the veteran coach joined the 500-win club with a decisive win over cross-county rival Cisco College.

"I'm very humbled and honored to have been able to do this long enough the get 500 wins," said Norwood, who began his head coaching career at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1998. "I think it (reaching 500) is something that I want to share with every player and coach that I have worked with over the years. Each win has been a team effort so I have to give them credit."

Norwood collected career win No. 500 on March 7 with a 24-13 decision over Cisco.

Under Norwood's direction, Ranger College emerged as one of the Northern Texas Junior College's top programs, posting winning records in two of his three seasons at the helm. After guiding the team to a 23-29 record in his first season, Norwood launched the Rangers to their first winning season in more than a decade in 2019 by piecing together a 27-23 mark. This season, Ranger went 13-12 before the NJCAA suspended play due to health concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

In his 2 ½ seasons at the helm of the Rangers, Norwood's teams have posted 63 victories. In the three seasons prior to taking over, RC was 57-110.

Following a season at Mercyhurst, he coached for three seasons at Sterling College in Kansas before moving to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas. From there, he coached six seasons at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock before taking over RC.
