Rangers complete 3-game sweep of ENMU JV

The Ranger College baseball team reached the 20-win milestone with an impressive effort this past week at Ellis Burks Field. The Rangers, behind a barrage of extra-base hits, completed a three-game sweep of the Eastern New Mexico University junior varsity with a 23-0 romp on Thursday.

During the non-conference series, Ranger College outscored the Greyhounds by a 63-1 margin.

The Rangers, now 20-14 for the season, got off to a quick start in the series finale. Ranger College scored six runs in the bottom half of the first inning and never looked back. In all, Ranger plated all 23 of its runs in the first four innings.

David Furgurson and Ricky Rivera paced the RC offense. Furgurson went 3-for-3 from the plate and drove in four runs. Rivera was 2-for-2 and collected three RBI.

Edwin Colon picked up the victory in Game 3. He scattered three hits in five innings on the mounds and fanned five.

Ranger didn't waste any time in getting the series off to a strong start on Wednesday. In the first game of an afternoon doubleheader, the Rangers pounded out numerous extra-base hits and raced to a 12-1 victory.

Overall, five of Rangers' nine hits were doubles. Isaiah Ortega-Jones, Brandon Holdren, Luis Vargas, Tucker Burton and Justin Cooper all notched doubles in the win.

After ENMU had scored a run in the second to pull to within 2-1, the RC offense hit stride. The Rangers scored twice in the third and eight more times in the fourth to blow the game open.

Jose Suero picked up the win in Game 1. He struck out seven en route to improving to 4-4 this year.

Ranger dominated Game 2. The Rangers sent 17 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning and jumped to a quick 12-0 lead. They tacked on 10 more in the third and built a commanding 25-0 cushion.

Ranger, which cranked out a season-high 24 hits, had five home runs in the game, including blasts from Holdren, Rivera, Furgurson, Michael Podsednik and Alex Garcia.

Rivera finished the game by going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in. J.J. Padilla and Shaughn Kelly both went 4-for-4 with three RBI. Garcia and Furgurson led the team in RBI by driving in four apiece.

Garcia went 2-for-3 in the game. Furgurson was 2-4, including his second homer of the year.

Kaleb Thompson drove in three by going 2-for-4. Podsednik was 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Luis Vargas also had a solid day, going 2-for-2 with a pair of runs batted in.

Chris Reynolds starred for the Rangers on the mound. He struck out 10 in five innings of work and improved to 3-1.

The Rangers will return to play on Saturday (April 6) when they host TCS Post Grad Academy. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
